Lift Off invited participants to explore digital technology in a meditative, contemplative way, through live webcams and meditative sentences. The webcams featuring natural phenomena, such as global climatological data and wildlife, offered the participants an experience of zooming in and zooming out view of the earth. The work points out at the normalisation of technology’s ability to bring the far near and also addresses the field of vision and distance : the screen becomes both a frame and a window from which to connect to the outside world. The work also addressed the idea that we have to find our will power to concentrate and focus out attention in the midst of the sensory overload that contemporary urban life bears.
Media: Coffee, tea, earphones, laptops, sound, video, vegan cake.
Lift Off was part of the Balance Network and was supported by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Unit and the Global Sustainability Institute
